Design Hop

For the past three years, Designer Dana King and her design loving friends have been redoing eachothers’ homes. For free. Every month, the group gets together, comes up with a plan for a room in one of their homes and goes to town. Calling themselves, Design Hop, they each come with different skills and donate their time, resources and energy to totally transform the space.

While the bulk of the redesigns are of those in the group, sometimes they dedicate a design to a “deserving person.” Last night’s “Hop” was one of those occassions. They redid the room of 16 year old Khemeetah Picket.

I was honored to be part of last night’s “Hop” and was completely blown away by the love, generosity and sheer TALENT these women possess. Other than Dana, none of them are professional designers. Yet, they wield hand tools with the utmost of skill, fly through craft projects like nobody’s business and think nothing of running to Target to buy things they need for the redesign.

Dana is in the process of updating her site and is hopeful that others in other cities will follow suit.
