There has been a big build-up over the past few weeks leading to the appearance of Drew Barrymore in Domino Magazine. Everyone was a bit TOO excited, in my opinion. Of course, I was curious to see what all the fuss was about and was checking my mailbox on a daily basis to see if my issue had arrived.
When it finally did, I dove right in. I wasn’t particularly impressed with her style or the overall interior design. It was quirky and boho-ish mixed with a few colorful accent pieces. Yet, I did come away with an important lesson: Do whatever you want and everything will come together. I think that this is the design message of the times. And Drew has got this down to a T.
Gone are the days of “appropriate” and “matchy matchy.” We have entered a new era – one where being true to yourself brings the best result. I have struggled for a long time to reconcile my love of bright colors with my love of neo-classic style and velvet fabrics. But, now, I am slowly starting to see that you CAN have it all…even if you have a quirky, hodge podge sense of style. It just takes balance and editing. (Something I plan on doing later for these blogs…)
Anyway, the main message is to do what you love and the joy (and the money) will follow.
